VETERINARIANS

Dre Florence Erdmann

Florence Erdmann was born in London, England and grew up on the West Island, graduating from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Montreal. Dr. Erdmann has been a veterinarian at Pierrefonds Animal Hospital since 1999 and, with her other partners, helped oversee the development and construction of the new hospital that opened in October 2013. Her professional interests are care for companion animals and diagnostic ultrasound. She is active in the community, serving as one of the veterinarians for Rosie's AnimalAdoption, SOS Greyhound rescue and regularly appearing on Global Montreal's 'Morning News' to discuss topics related to animal health and welfare. She lives in the West Island with her husband, children and dogs.

Dre Laurie Dunbar

Dr. Dunbar has a diploma in Animal Science from the Dalhousie University Faculty of Agriculture, and a BSC from the University of Guelph. She graduated as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1986 from the Ontario Veterinary College. From Nova Scotia, she began her career at the Darmouth Veterinary Hospital, then moved to Montreal where she eventually became an owner of the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital.

Dr. Dunbar has a strong interest and advanced training in surgery, pain management and physical rehabilitation. She took the first course in canine physical therapy offered by the University of Tennessee in 2000, and then went on to complete a certification as a Canine Physical Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP). She has advanced training in the use of the therapeutic laser, and has lectured on the subject for the American Institute of Medical Laser Applications (AIMLA), and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. In her spare time, Dr Dunbar plays competitive tennis, and is a level 1 youth basketball coach and an executive for the West Island Lakers Basketball Association. She enjoys spending time with her husband, their two children and their 3 dogs.

Dre Violaine de Montigny

Dr. Violaine de Montigny graduated from the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire of the University of Montreal in 1996, and has worked at Pierrefonds Animal Hospital ever since. With a penchant for business as well as animal care, she undertook and completed an MBA from l’École des hautes études commerciales, in 2000. She divides her time between hospital administration and caring for the medical needs of dogs, cats and small furry mammals. When not working, she can be found with her two children or actively pursuing outdoor sports such as running, cycling and skiing.

Dre Nancy Duguay

Dr. Duguay hails from New Brunswick, where she completed her bachelor with a specialization in Biology, followed by Veterinary Medicine studies at the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire of the University of Montréal, at St-Hyacinthe. She has been an invaluable member of the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital team for over 8 years. Dr. Duguay is the lucky owner of three mischievous cats - Rose, Nicky and Charlot – that she has rescued and welcomed into her family.

Dre Anne-Marie Masse

Graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College of Guelph University in 1990, Dr. Anne-Marie Masse has been with Pierrefonds Animal Hospital since 1991. She has a particular interest in your feline friends, as evidenced by her membership with the American Association of Feline Practitioners. These days she shares special moments with her 8 year old cat Nala, who loves to be pampered by endless brushing – life is good!

Dre Anita Cuisinier

Dr. Anita Cuisinier grew up on a polo horse ranch in rural South Australia, and completed a Bachelor of Psychology with Honours prior to her Veterinary Science degree at Sydney University in 2009. She has called Pierrefonds Animal Hospital her home away from home since joining the team in February 2012. She is particularly passionate about surgery, but has a soft spot for exotics (birds, hedgehogs and hamsters in particular) and ex-racing greyhounds. In her spare time, Dr. Cuisinier works at the SPCA and fosters sick stray cats.

She also volunteers as medical team leader for Chiots Nordiques, sterilizing stray dogs and cats in communities of northern Quebec. She plays piano and sings with the Yellow Door Choir, and loves movies, needlepoint, netball and travelling to work with veterinarians in faraway locations, such as the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital and the Esther Honey Foundation in the Cook Islands.

Dre Claudia Gilbert

Born and raised in Lac-St-Jean, Dr. Gilbert graduated from the Faculté de médecine vétérinaire of the University of Montreal in 2005, after having completed ecology and environment studies prior to her veterinary degree. Her passion for veterinary medicine led her to an Internship in Applied Veterinary Sciences for companion animals, also at the University of Montreal, during which she developed her competency in surgery and ophthalmology in particular. Whilst still at veterinary school, Dr. Gilbert co-founded an international veterinary welfare project,

which led her to Mauritius and gave rise to published journal articles, conferences, photographic exhibitions and televised interviews. This experience unearthed a new passion for public education, and after journalism and communication studies at the University of Montreal, Dr. Gilbert began regular appearances on Salut Bonjour and became the head consultant for the documentary Hôpital Vétérinaire Season 2 on TV5. Dr. Gilbert loves to dance. She is also a fan of kite-surfing, scuba diving, photography and theatre, as well as a musician (congas, piano and saxophone). She shares her life with Jasmine, her long-haired Weimaraner, and her Harlequin budgie, Salsa.

Dre Karen-Joy Goldenberg

Dr. Goldenberg obtained her Veterinary Medicine diploma from the University of Montreal in 2011. She then completed a year-long internship to expand her medical and surgical knowledge at Oradell Animal Hospital in New Jersey, before joining the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital team in 2012. Dr. Goldenberg has a special interest in surgery, as well as animal behaviour. She is also passionate about exotic animal medicine, and loves to care for pets with feathers, fur or scales! At home, Dr. Goldenberg lives with Motek, a sweet little parrotlet.

Dre Mylène Bourduas

Dr. Bourduas was born and raised in Montreal. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Biology from l’Universitéde Montréal in 2003. She then pursued further studies in Neurobiology at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario before moving to Perth, Australia to complete her studies in veterinary medicine. She has been a part of the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital team since 2010. Dr. Bourduas provides compassionate care to small and large dogs and cats, purebreds, mixed breeds, hamsters, rats, guinea pigs and rabbits.

She is passionate about all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery. Dr. Bourduas is currently pursuing further training to become a certified canine rehabilitation practitioner (C.C.R.P.) while maintaining her full time hours at PAH. Her previous work for Doctors Without Borders and for native communities of Northern Ontario shows her marked interest in volunteering her time to promote social health in humans and animals. She also possesses a formation in water rescue with Newfoundland dogs. She shares her life with a little terrier cross, originally rescued during her stay in Australia, who is also an adept surfer!

Dre Naomi Dicks

Dr. Naomi Dicks graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College at the University of Guelph where she worked at the Teaching Hospital following completion of her degree in 2008. Originally from the West Island of Montreal, Dr. Dicks returned to Quebec in 2009 to join our team. Over the past years, Dr. Dicks has developed a special interest in preventive medicine, internal medicine, as well as ultrasound. She also organises volunteer sterilization clinics through the hospital for stray and abandoned cats. When not at the clinic, Dr. Dicks studies at McGill University where she is completing a Masters degree in Animal Science. She also enjoys road biking, travelling and spending time with her Golden Retriever Louie, and her two cats César and Batman.

Dre Dominique Laplante

Dr. Laplante obtained her doctorate in veterinary medicine from the University of Montreal in 2001. Throughout her studies, she completed multiple placements with birds and exotic pets, her primary passion, including birds of prey. She joined the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital team in 2003, where she set up the bird and exotics medicine and surgery service. She works tirelessly at developing this special department, whilst simultaneously continuing her work with dogs and cats. An avid traveller and humanitarian,

Dr. Laplante has also worked for Veterinarians Without Borders in sterilization and vaccination clinics, in Guatemala. Mom to three young kids, most of her free time is spent on family activities – stroller walks, park outings, snowmen and princess dress-ups! Nevertheless, she still finds time for photography, rock-climbing and music. Her family would not be complete without her cats Gontrand (her favourite orange boy!) and Gaspard, and her talkative parakeet Piou Piou.

Dr. Norman Lawlor

Dr. Lawlor graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Montreal in 1971. He remains impassioned by the veterinary field and companion animal care, and has had the perseverance to participate in the founding and management of four veterinary clinics and two hospitals. His favourite past-time is boating and navigation.

Dr. Pierre Charbonneau

Originally from Disraeli in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, Dr. Charbonneau completed his studies in Quebec and in St-Hyacinthe. Graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Montreal in 1971, he is one of the founders of Pierrefonds Animal Hospital. Throughout his years of practice, he has developed an interest in gerontology. After more than 33 years as a companion animal veterinarian, Dr. Charbonneau is still just as passionate about his work and the well-being of his patients. When at home, he is watched over by his friend Kayak, an adopted Husky.

Dr. Isak Kasuto

Dr. Kasuto started his veterinary career as a volunteer at the Pierrefonds Animal Hospital while completing his Bachelor's degree at McGill University in Animal Biology. He then continued to work at the hospital as a technician’s assistant during his studies in veterinary medicine at the University of Montreal. In 2007, Dr. Kasuto graduated from veterinary school and moved to Ottawa where he spent 6 1/2 years as an emergency/ICU clinician at the Alta Vista Animal Hospital, working hand in hand with multiple veterinary specialists and gaining experience in the field.

He also taught part-time in the Veterinary Technician program at the Algonquin College in Ottawa. In August 2013, Dr. Kasuto moved back home to Montreal and Pierrefonds Animal Hospital to help develop and run a new emergency/ ICU service. Dr. Kasuto has dedicated his career to emergency and critical care medicine, receiving an award for proficiency in emergency and critical care from the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society in 2008. He especially loves the intensity of emergency medicine and the challenge of having to think and react quickly in different situations. "You never have the same day when working in emergency medicine!". Dr. Kasuto has a special interest in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and emergency surgery, as well as teaching and molding young minds in the field! He shares his life with his wife, son and a highly spirited dog and cat. In his spare time, he enjoys pursuing his two other passions: climbing and music.
